Unlike a moisturiser, an essence is applied right after cleansing and works to prep the skin, creating a smooth and hydrated base for your serums and creams, allowing the products to work more seamlessly.

Being sensitive to heavy fragrances and scents, I was skeptical of the product’s featured ingredient – kombucha, which is essentially fermented tea. An ancient Asian and Russian ingredient, it has become a wonder drink for the gut and carries several health benefits, but it can be an acquired taste as the smell is often pungent due to its fermented quality. Yet, I was pleasantly surprised with the essence’s fragrance, the kombucha notes are subtly sweet, carrying a calming black tea and mandarin scent.
Encased in elegant matte glass bottle, it is both a product worthy of your skin care shelf and of your actual skin. Pollution is not the only problem this essence tackles, but also dullness, pores and fine lines, leaving you with a fresh, supple feeling further enhanced by the added effect of the hyaluronic acid. Fresh recommends patting the essence gently onto cleansed skin, I usually use a cotton pad to sweep the product over my face, which helps save product.
Its light, transparent consistency is another plus, absorbing perfectly into the skin without leaving it weighed down. After two weeks of using the essence both in the morning and at night, I have noticed an increased luminosity in my complexion and an evened skin tone without any added greasiness, perfect when I choose to forgo make-up for the day.
Overall, Fresh proves that using uncommon skincare ingredients has great potential, and may become a new beauty trend.
