Glass Meets New “Dolce Girl” Kate King – The star of Dolce & Gabbana’s campaign talks about her love of scent

As Milan Fashion Week commences, Glass met one of its newest stars Kate King, who also happens to be the new face of Dolce & Gabbana’s fragrance “Dolce”. Famed for her exquisite cheekbones, Canadian-born Kate has already made a name for herself walking for the likes of Michael Kors, Moschino, Christian Dior and – of course – Dolce & Gabbana, not to mention starring in a number of high-profile campaigns and editorial shoots by Tommy Ton and Patrick Demarchelier.

Launched earlier this year, Dolce is a rich white floral containing notes of amaryllis, neroli, sandalwood and white water lily – a special 150ml version has recently been launched. The model chats about the fragrance and starring in the new campaign film directed by Giuseppe Tornatore, set in an idyllic lemon tree grove in an 18th Century Palazzo in Sicily.

Kate talked to Glass about working on the film, her love of fragrance and a few of her favourite things.

How would you describe Dolce in three words?
Feminine, floral and sensual.

What’s your take on fragrances?
I love wearing fragrance, I believe it adds another layer of personality to an outfit. It is something so personal because scent has such a strong connection to memory its ability to capture a place, or a moment in time makes it deeply special.

Is fragrance an everyday habit or just something to wear on special occasions?
Fragrance is an everyday habit – I put it on no matter the occasion.

How do you choose your signature scent?
I think scent is very personal. For me, I choose scents which I instantly love, and which I love even more as it wears on the skin. I am into interesting, intricate scents where delicate notes are teamed with deep ones.

How was it work with Giuseppe Tornatore on this campaign?
Working with Giuseppe Tornatore was really something special. To work with someone so talented and passionate about his work really made the experience increasingly more memorable. Giuseppe is so great at explaining what he wants from you it made it easier for me to become this character and display the emotions of the film.

What is your favourite thing about Sicily?
Well, I am definitely in love with the food. I think the setting, the scenery and the warmth of the people make it so special. I have only been a few times, but each time I visited I noticed something new. I love the sense of family spirit there and the strong feeling of togetherness amongst families. I definitely have some amazing memories from Sicily and hope to go back soon –  would love to travel round the island and visit even more.

What is your definition of beauty?
I think beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Individuality is what makes us special.

What’s your beauty regime?
Simple, I like to have a great cleanser and moisturiser. I think the less you put on your face, the happier your skin will be.

Do you have a favourite restaurant?
I love Eataly in New York.

What is your favourite author and book?
I love the Bronte sisters, Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte is one of my favourites.

What’s your favourite memory from your career?
Shooting the campaign for Dolce is by far the most special moment of my career.
