Glass delves into how Henry Moore inspired Alexander McQueen

FOR Alexander McQueen‘s AW20 collection, Creative Director Sarah Burton took inspiration from British artist Henry Moore. Though known for his bronze sculptures, the designer was more fond of his drawings.

A work titled Three-Quarter Figure, produced in 1928 was reproduced by the Henry Moore Foundation for the collection – cementing the relationship between the two.

Making of the AW20 suit

Wool silk suits and coats were printed with the sketch, and in true McQueen style, it blurred the lines between art and fashion. Fastenings on the centre front were finished with horn buttons and the shoulders of the coats and jackets were tailored neatly to emphasise the fabric.

Hailed for their craftsmanship, the McQueen ateliers were able to elegantly fuse the inspiration with the classic British tailoring taking their menswear to a level beyond ready-to-wear – pushing into the boundary of couture.
