Fourth of July dining in London

If you’re pining for a slice of Americana this July 4 weekend, look no further than Balthazar – the Covent Garden institution based on one of New York’s most famous brasseries.

In celebration of America’s Independence Day, the French-American restaurant is offering a weekend brunch party – nothing says Manhattan like brunch – wherein US classics, such as hotdogs, sandwiches and cookies are infused with elegance and Parisian verve. The hotdog, for example, comprises an eight-inch Toulouse sausage, brisket and comté cheese, wrapped in a homemade pain de mie roll.

There’ll also be Bloody Marys in various portion sizes, including a particularly decadent 12-litre pitcher – whatever size you choose, it’ll come served with condiments, like crispy bacon or olives, designed to complement the flavour.

In addition to this, there will be a pop-up outside the restaurant – on the Covent Garden piazza – serving the chef’s aptly named ‘le sandwich américain’. It promises to be a truly indulgent, more-is-more culinary experience with a home-ground beef patty, melted Cheddar, pickles and fries inside. You can also sample some of the restaurant’s specially created desserts at the pop-up, including the Stars and Stripes cookie and the Union macarons.

The Brunch menu is available from 10am-4pm of Saturday July 4 and Sunday July 5.

The pop-up is open until Sunday July 5 from 11am-8pm.
