UP-AND-COMING Swedish director and photographer, Christian Larson, who has made short films for Mercedes, Cartier, Agent Provacateur among others, was inspired to shoot a film about La Suite Rio an elegant bohemian-styled boutique hotel he was charmed by, and its charismatic owner Francois Xavier Dussol, and which he chanced upon while travelling to Brazil to shoot for the Swedish underwear brand which he also co-founded, CDLP. La Suite Rio is owned and established by Dussol, a Frenchman who previously opened La Maison, Rio’s first boutique B&B.
“Just south of Rio on a little peninsula, Francois has created a small villa hotel with 12 rooms called La Suite which has become the place to stay in Rio. I was captivated by this charismatic man when I met him four years ago on a visit, and we stayed in touch,” says Larson.
“Last year when I was there, I shot this video portrait on him as we were shooting photographs for CDLP underwear. The brand favours intellectual masculinity over athletes. I plan to make a series of these mini-doc-portraits of decent men in interesting destinations around the world,” he continues.
