IN PARTNERSHIP with the École Nationale Supérieure de la Photographie and Luma Arles, a non-profit organisation supporting contemporary artists, Dior announces the winner of the second annual Dior Photography Award for Young Talents in Arles, France. This year, the theme mediated on ideas of femininity, beauty and colour – values that link with both Dior and the art of photography itself. The jury, composed of the president and founder of Luma Arles, Maja Hoffmann; Director of the Maison Européenne de la Photographie Simon Baker; Creative and Image Director for Dior Make-up, Peter Philips; President and CEO of Christian Dior Parfums, Claude Martinez and photographer Sonia Sieff selected the winning piece – Second Self Introduction, a work by Gangao Lang.

Gangao Lang was selected for the award for her piece, Second Self Introduction

Lang is a Chinese photographer from the Shanghai Institute of Arts, just 21 years old, the beauty of her art is inspired by combining photography with painterly techniques. Lang states, “beauty is a global language which takes a young girl with a dream as a starting point, and ends up as a woman with a vision”. As part of the award, Dior will give Lang a 10,000 euro grant as well as commissioning a creative artwork from the artist herself.
