Dior Cruise Collection 2015 unveiled

Dior’s 2015 cruise cohort modelled a 66-piece collection earlier this week, and in what seemed to come and go in a New York minute. But time flies when you’re having fun, and Dior delivered, commencing the sensational spectacle by chartering a CD-brand East River ferry to cart the high-profile guests.

Raf Simons attempted to put Brooklyn on the fashion map again, did anyone say Alexander Wang(?!), with a bright halyconic display held in an airy glass-panelled greenhouse space situated in Brooklyn’s Navy Yard. The interior, which attracted those including Marion Cotillard, Leelee Sobieski and Margot Robbie, incubated a number of fresh looks that were way beyond just “wearable”, because it seemed they actually had something chic to say.

More consideration came about when the variety dawned upon the spectators, with an astute response to adoring American clientèle bases targeting top honours, and it deserved them. There was more comfort in this collection –  a French je ne sais quoi meets vogueish US amiability, with a light silk scarf leitmotif offering up just the kind of versatility that succeeds for cruise. Next to that a handful of other standouts were led by sublime waistlines, cut ultra-high for long, lean silhouettes and what more could you really want?

Moving on, we saw abstract prints that said it all, refusing elegance and ripped straight from the Dior athenaeum, “I wanted to explore print without being too romantic about it” remarked Simons, “I was surprised by how raw and artistic some of the archival scarves were.”

Concoctions of cocktail dresses that stuck to the ingredients above worked very well, with Simons aiming to hone his signature slim-cuts. Dior has subdued travel styling for 2015, but with worldwide conscience, and yes, Brooklyn’s bleak navy landscape may be a jump from the Dior parlour, but again, this all works, and Simons is still carrying a special torch for Monsieur Dior.
