Costa Brazil brings the jungle into skincare

LIKE MANY skincare fanatics the requirement for clean, sustainably sourced ingredients in products is a necessity. Utilising the benefits of the natural world has become a norm and the education in what certain elements can do is on-going learning curve, so when a brand comes into my awareness, the deep dive into who, what and why must be compelling to stand out.

It didn’t take long for me to realise Costa Brazil may be the real deal.

Captivated by his homeland of Brazil, founder Francisco Costa left his fashion career in design in 2016 to return from New York to Rio. Delving into the untapped beauty of the nature around him, uncovering the truths around healing rituals and understanding the need for conservation, he brought together his hailed minimalism with this new knowledge.

Launching Costa Brazil, a beauty brand that focuses on sourcing sustainably from the Amazon and activating their enriching properties through the latest technology, the environmentally conscious vegan skincare was a clear must-try for me.

The foundation of Costa Brazil’s products are all centred around their ‘Jungle Complex’, an exclusive formula designed by Francisco with the help of scientists and local agriculturists who specialise in the Amazon. This high-potency recipe is formed of Kaya, Cacay and Breu resin alongside a mix of a variation of seed oils such as Babassu, Baobab and Tucuma, to name a few, and native plants like Murumuru extract and fruit like Murumuru.

With only four products on offer: face oil, body oil, body cream and bath salt, I decided to try the oils. The Kaya Anti-Aging Face Oil was the first up. Made from the protein-rich Kaya, it promised radiance, hydration and skin firming due to its essential fatty acids and lipid ingredients. The oil itself is incredibly lightweight and doesn’t have that slimy texture that many unfortunately have – a huge tick in the box.

Though a few drops may be how many use it, I preferred half the pipette’s worth as my skin is quite dry patting it onto my face before my moisturiser. Soaking in gradually my skin after a month’s use had that summer glow that I strive for and even helped minimise the occasional bit of acne all whilst helping with the texture of my face, leaving it soft and far less stressed.

The other product I tried was the Kaya Firming Jungle Oil, a rich cold-pressed formula packed with vitamins, omegas and antioxidants that would soften and tone your skin. This was one that really helped calm my skin and the benefits of the untapped beauty of the rainforest clearly came out. As someone with sensitive skin, it was always nerving putting new products on but with the emphasis on clean, natural, paraben-free etc, it gave me the hydration and restoring of elasticity that I had hoped for.

Beyond the clear benefits of these two products, the brand has partnered with non-profit organisation, Conservation International, who are devoted to protecting nature. Costa Brazil has stood alongside this cause since its very first day, ensuring the preservation of the Amazon was just as important as its products.

Completely swayed by the natural benefits of the Amazon to my skin, my only wish was that the bottles were bigger.
