Comilona: An Argentine food festival opens in London

Comilona, a festival that celebrates the vibrant culinary scene of Argentina, is taking place in London this week. Some of the country’s most revered chefs have flown to the city to offer their celebrated cuisine in restaurants including Zoilo and Casa Malevo.

The festival takes its name from the Spanish word for feast, and this is its inaugural year. As such, the line-up is impressive with chefs including Soledad Nardelli and Gonzalo Aramburu, whose respective restaurants both feature in Latin America’s top 50.

They’ll also be a chance to sample the gastronomic artistry of Martin Baquero, Victor Trochi and Valeria Digiacomo, all of whom are lauded members of the culinary scene, both in Buenos Aires and the wider world.

Glass was lucky enough to sample some of what’s to come at the launch last night; richly flavoured empanadas with crisp brown exteriors, lime-sharp ceviche and soft, slow-cooked short rib inside fried breadcrumbs were among the beguiling offering.

There were also Argentine wines from a family-run winery called Rutini, including a light and silky sparkling rosé that would work beautifully on warm summer evenings.
