AW19 PFW: KOCHE

WITH a mismatch of different influences, from east Asian style to the football, Koché showcases their playfully conceptual AW19 collection at PFW, in collaboration with Nike. Debuting a new sense of glamour, in comparison to their more subdued previous collections, the French fashion house proves its all in the details with their commitment to embellishment, embroidery and ruffle trimming. While the catwalk was minimalist and understated, the collection was everything but.

Youth culture and fantasy is entwined throughout the collection, bringing understated athletic-wear together with refined satin and Asian-inspired floral prints. Adornments are key throughout, from sequins, to tassels, to an abundance of feathers. The influence of sportswear is everywhere in the collection, proving even football tees can be high fashion. Remaking urban street-wear with a new sense of opulence, Koché experiments with the vast perceptions and possibilities of street-style.

Marked with excess, the collection delves into extravagance in ways the fashion house has never done before. Featuring everything from over-the-top ruffles, feathers, and fringe, Koché blows sportswear out of proportions, while successfully maintaining a feeling of wearability. A diverse colour palette, spanning from monochrome to the bold use of blues, reds, and yellow, Koché explores colour just as she explores the realms of street-style and opulence. Without a doubt show-stopper of the collection was the huge feathered hats, expanding her fascination with high fashion headgear present in previous collections with embellished head-pieces.

Koché goes above and beyond, pushing the boundaries of sportswear. To describe the collection as sports-luxe would be an understatement.
