Atelier Versace kicks off Paris Haute Couture Week AW14

Sunday night marked the beginning of Haute Couture Fashion Week for Spring/Summer 14 in Paris and is regarded as one of the finest fashion events in the world. Atelier Versace once again was the first show of the week, holding a late night catwalk performance.

Sitting front row was Lady Gaga, who is also the face of the new Versace campaign.  Donatella and Gaga were both dressed in long black silk draped dresses, looking very much alike with their long blond hair worn in similar long straight styles.  Gaga’s cowl-hooded garment resembled many of the looks on the catwalk this season for Versace.

Although the presence of supermodels were absent on the catwalk this year (Naomi Campbell returned to the catwalk as lead model last year), Donatella Versace’s new spring/summer collection was filled with garments only the most powerful women could pull off.

The collection featured many cowl-hooded garments resembling Grace Jones’ influential style.  Body contouring silhouettes essential to the brands DNA was blended with relaxed couture draping, resulting in goddess-like attire of every length and in many different colours. Swarovski crystals, beading and cutout embellishment detailing were seen on the soft, shimmery fabrics that were designed into gowns, dresses, playsuits and pantsuits.
