Why vinegar is the secret to great hair this summer

Summer isn’t good news where our hair is concerned. All that sweltering heat and perspiration can leave it greasy and stuck to the side of our face – not to mention it ending up dry and dull from all that sun, sea and sand. Luckily, a new type of spray has been launched in the nick of time, which will hopefully put an end of all our summer haircare woes.

Christophe Robin has an impressive CV, having tended the tresses of Catherine Deneuve, Kylie Minogue and Tilda Swinton. He is Colour Ambassador for L’Oreal and has a salon at Le Meurice, one of the most swish hotels in Paris. So it’s save to say this is a Frenchman who knows his onions when it comes to what works for the hair and what doesn’t. A product range was inevitable, and well-heeled Parisians were soon clamouring for his products such as his Lavender Oil, which protects and nourishes coloured hair.

We were recently bowled over by his latest offering – a range of Hair Finish Lotions made with botanical vinegars that care for both the hair and the scalp. Vinegar has been used for centuries (Robin himself has been using apple cider vinegar backstage for many years) due to its ability to dissolve impurities and make hair feel lighter. These new versions come delicately perfumed so they scent the hair as well as style it (they can be used on the body and mixed in your bathwater too).

The spray closes the hair cuticles and dissolves residues and excess sebum. You can either apply it on damp washed hair before blow-drying to boost volume and shine and to brighten coloured hair. Otherwise it’s a great way of refreshing the hair and scalp in-between washes (especially useful after you’ve been to the gym and don’t have time to wash your hair).

It works to help combat dandruff too – natch. Tested on thick waist-length hair, it made our tresses soft, smooth and manageable, earning it full marks from the Glass team.

There are three varieties: Regenerating Hair Finish Lotion with Hibiscus Vinegar from normal to dry hair, Purifying Hair Finish Lotion with Sage Vinegar for particularly greasy hair and Brightening Hair Finish Lotion with Fruit Vinegar to boost and brighten blonde tresses. Our verdict: A multi-tasking product which you tresses will thank you for this summer.
