UNIT9 presents Alice Anderson: Between Surfaces

UNIT9 presents Alice Anderson’s new exhibition Between Surfaces curated by Rowena Chiu. The exhibition presents an installation of Anderson’s abstract sculpture where architectural elements in the form of lighting tracks that have been “memorised” by the artist through the action of winding with copper-coloured thread. The thread used represents the conductive nature of the technological world that Anderson is fascinated by.

Anderson’s thought process behind these sculptures is that in our hectic lives, the only way to make sure objects do not get forgotten or lost is to “memorise” them with thread quickly. Through the act of “performing the object,” she connects with it by recording and charging the object through “printing” it with her bodily movement.

This large-scale installation is  accompanied by Pulse Drawings, which visually represent Anderson’s sensitivity to the vibrational properties of a specific shade of red. The works are made as Anderson moves between two surfaces, transcribing her internal beat.
