Butter London have branched out into a full make-up collection with a confectionary of colours – Glass gets a sugar high

Known for their cult nail polishes (which are regularly spotted backstage at London Fashion Week) and bold use of colour, Butter London have decided to take the plunge with a full collection of lipsticks, mascaras, blushers, cream shadows and eye crayons – ranging from acid house brights to more pretty floral shades.

“The ‘all colour’ make-up looks (i.e. matching your lipstick to your mascara) that we were spotting on catwalks such as Donna Karan really spoke to us.” explains Global Colour Ambassador Katie Jane Hughes. “We were one of the first nail brands to go backstage at Fashion Week. It was only a matter of time before we brought out a full colour collection.”

Interestingly there are no powder formulas – only creams – so that the products, such as blusher and eyeshadow, can be used in different ways. “The whole purpose of this line is ease of use, which is down to our versatile formulas.” Hughes notes. “So our WINK mascaras can be used as eyeliners, our LIPPY Tinted Balm in Toasted Marshmallow can be used to contour under the cheeks, etc.”

The WINK Cream Eye Shadows are sure to be snapped off the shelves with a light buildable formula and gently luminous texture in shades as Sun Kiss (a soft yellow) and Alabaster Gaze (pearlescent white) to really illuminate and flatter the eyelids.

But for some serious statement shades, opt for the WINK Colour Mascaras (£15) in Jaded Jack or Indigo Punk; we found coloured mascara really complements a bold lip and looks less overdone than all over eye shadow. The LIPPY Tinted Balms (£14) are another highlight of the range – packed with shea butter and hydrating nutrients, they produce a shimmering texture when applied but turn matte once blotted.

We were also impressed with the WINK Eye Pencils (£14), from the look-at-me neon shades to the more traditional Brown Sugar and Black Coffee – with a soft velvety texture that doesn’t seem to budge. The CHEEKY Cream Blush is another handbag staple, with shades ranging from Honey Pie (a soft brown-peach) to Pistol Pink (a hot fushcia) with mango seed butter, giving them a wonderfully cushiony texture.

Sadly, there are no base products as yet, such as a foundation or concealer, but apparently it’s only a matter of time – and we’re sure the textures will be as long-lasting and, well, buttery soft as the rest of the collection.
