ONE of the easiest and most effective anti-ageing and skincare treatment is to consistently wear a SPF cream on your face, as well as any skin that is exposed to the sun – even the parting in your hair and ear tops. This should be done each and every day, not just sunny ones. Nowadays, happily for us, there is a wide range for every skin type and concern; with technology improving rapidly we are really spoilt for choice. Ideally use one offering broad spectrum (UVA/UVB) coverage. So no excuse, really. An utter no-brainer.
Also bear in mind that a SPF of 50 doesn’t offer almost double the protection provided by a product with a 30 SPF. These absorb 97 per cent of UVB (the radiation which causes skin cancer, UVA gives you sun burn), whereas a 50 SPF product absorbs 98 per cent UVB. Yes, there is only a slim one per cent difference, so be aware. And you are advised by dermatologists to use a lot more product than you may imagine. Skincare and cancer expert Dr Marco Lens, the founder of Zelens, recommends that a generous teaspoon’s worth of product should be applied to the face before going into the sun and to top it up every two hours or so.
