Stellar success — The Dining Room at The Goring Hotel

[slideshow_deploy id=’34601′]

The Dining Room at The Goring, the hotel notably frequented by the Royal family and conveniently located only a stones throw from Buckingham Palace, has been awarded its first star in The Michelin Guide Great Britain & Ireland 2016. The Goring was one of only four restaurants to be awarded their first star this year.

Discreetly tucked away in a quiet tree-lined street in Belgravia, The Goring is now the only five-star luxury hotel in London that is owned and run by the family that built it. It can also claim to be the first hotel in the world to have central heating and en-suite bathrooms in every bedroom.

Designed by David Linley and Tim Gosling, the restaurant décor and furnishings are typical of an English dining room complete with a wooden fireplace, floor-to-celling drapes and oversized mirrors. The delightful and dedicated restaurant manager, Mikko Jappinen, puts guests completely at ease and is on hand to ensure the smooth running of your dining experience.

Food served is notably British with modern inflections. Executive chef, Shay Cooper, who arrived at The Goring from The Bingham, Richmond-upon-Thames, where he gained his first Michelin star, focuses on lighter, more modern dishes – all prepared with great skill, with local seasonal produce being the focus of the menu.

I started with the delicate Artichoke Salad, which consisted of five different types of exotic mushrooms, with the artichokes cooked in a barigoule sauce. I followed with the flavoursome Roast Cornish Cod, cooked to perfection, complete with young fennel, leek, kedgeree and curry spices, with a side of steamed spinach and triple-fried chips (awesome). The sommelier paired the wines during the meal from his extensive international collection, offering an explanation of their origin and vintage.

With a little room left for dessert, I opted for the Clotted Cream Mousse – calorie-stuffed and stupendous – with a sharp contrasting apple sorbet and accompanied with mini-crumble topping pieces.

The Dining Room at The Goring is fine dining at its British best in an elegant, formal surrounding. Expect to be spoiled and indulged. Don’t miss the opportunity to celebrate with The Goring their outstanding Michelin achievement.
