Rock n’ Roll Brunch at the House of Ho, London

Sunday brunch is arguably the most fun meal of the week and The House of Ho in Soho has embraced this idea with Bobby’s Rock n’ Roll Brunch. Launched this autumn, the brunch is a light-hearted addition to Bobby Chinn’s modern take on Vietnamese cuisine. The premise is simple – call the restaurant to book a time slot between noon and 5pm, choose between two set menus (£29 or £36) and then sit back and order as much as you can eat and drink in two hours. For £36 you get a dessert and a bit more choice of main courses, but a highlight of both menus is the selection of sharing plates.

Although they are intended as starters, rather than a meal in themselves, it’s all too tempting to try one of everything. Varied and visually-pleasing, the sharing plates provide a good balance of flavours – from delicate vegetable summer rolls to aromatic 7-spice squid and rich stuffed tofu.

Not to be outshone, the main courses (limited to one per person) are also flavoursome and well-presented. Unlimited prosecco and wine is on offer with both menus and the £36 one also includes pitchers of cocktails. Appetisers (prawn crackers and edamame beans), an aperitif (lychee bellinis) and side dishes (try the morning glory) make up the finishing touches. Of course, it wouldn’t be a rock ‘n’ roll brunch without music – the lazy Sunday mood is enhanced by a live band playing jazzy versions of rock ‘n’ roll classics.
