PFW SS17: Louis Vuitton

SO Nicolas Ghesquière got the ‘80s bug too. Strong shoulders, power-dressing in the form of tailored suits, asymmetric jersey dresses, pointy boots, dramatic makeup, black leather, chunky gold jewellery and a very chic and subtle interpretation of the harem trousers with fastening belts, a detail appearing also on the jersey dresses, paired with a turban-like headgear were all part of Louis Vuitton’s SS17 collection.

This collection, following Ghesquière’s very futuristic vision of the past collections for the fashion house, was more down to earth. As the show took place on the Place Vendôme in the Louis Vuitton headquarters, the location filled with light, overlooking Paris and a more intimate way of presentation sans dramatic staging had the same effect.

The location also made sense as the collection celebrated Louis Vuitton’s Parisian heritage, specifically the Parisienne women and their sense of style. This collection was created for them to be able to wear for many different occasions, be it lace dresses and separates taking them from work to party, shimmery partly transparent gowns with cut outs covered in tiny crystals for special occasions or band-like T-shirts with a motif of a faun’s head taken from the façade of 2 Place Vendôme for everyday or a concert.
