PFW SS16: Carven

Carven’s artistic directors Alexis Martial and Adrien Caillaudaud took the audience deep into the sea with their second collection for the French house for SS16. The inspiration was apparent everywhere you looked. Garments in coral orange, starfish red, white and all the hues of blue were adorned with prints of bubbles, corals, the life under water or a little scuba diver and slogan T-shirts worn with high-waisted wrap skirts read Kid Waves or Kid Shark.

Sporty tops and sweatshirts with a high collar and a zipper at the front seemed fit for most water sports and shirt dresses perfect for the seaside or a boat ride. And light chiffon mini-dresses with curving cuts or little frills resembled the ever- moving sea waves.

The freshfaced models walking down the runway in chunky sandals with big buckles were dressed in breezy shirts or body-hugging little sweaters paired with tailored shorts, ‘60s mod miniskirts with cut-out circles on the hem or long tight flared trousers enhancing the lean figures of the models sometimes worn with matching jackets.

The show turned more towards tailoring half-way through as thick smooth satin dresses and pant suits in black, electric blue and silver started appearing.
