PFW SS15: Sonia Rykiel

Julie de Libran did Bardot on Mediterranean safari for her Sonia Rykiel debut, and then some. The debut turned out to be quite the fashion’y parade of quaint pieces that are sure to conserve the “lounge” dressing backdrop Rykiel set up in days of yore. Going back to debut yet again for just a moment, because, think about it, this season has been a melange of debut’s and also retirements; this one fit like a glove, spelling out a good fortune for Libran’s tenure at the house almost immediately. Tailored tweeds opened the show, some of the unaffected wearable tweeds we’ve seen for a while in Paris, alongside simple sun dresses with simple stripes that kept the focus on the woman.

There was quite a host of women in attendance at the show as well, from top models such as both Georgia May and Lizzy Jagger, as well as Miranda Kerr on the catwalk, to the side-lines, where Sofia Coppola et al occupied the front row. This was Libran’s focus though, and for that we salute her, because fashion needs more shows like this, ones that depict women at their personal best wearing clothes that can contribute to exactly that. Likewise, some soft military tailoring underlined the woman who can take on the world slant. This was softened up further as the show reached its climax with loose, comfortable jumpsuits confected by some sumptuous fur slung over the shoulder, not something that you often see during S/S, but this was fur for one’s après-ski whims. Sonia Rykiel SS15 came to a concise, considered end, one that should lead to new beginnings.
