PFW SS15: Louis Vuitton

Nicholas Ghesquière’s follow up to his all-eyes-on-Vuitton debut last season was just as ambitious. For SS15 he wanted his collection to brave the frontiers of worldy, artisanal creations, just with a little bit of the boxy sixties being sampled for good measure. It’s now clear that Ghesquière thinks the clean, cropped, girlish codes of that era, as it neared the ‘70s in particular, and Vuitton should go hand in hand.

The designer avoided any dramatics or spectacle pieces, instead, in a general continuation of AW14, paid unwavering attention to the finer details of the stripped leatherwork on dresses, floral textures with networks of fuzzy shearling and boho-couture velveteen slacks. Next up on his list was LV’s all-important lineup of accessories, something which Ghesquière makes every effort not to make into a pun of sorts, in effect, transforming Vuitton’s luxury footprint while he’s at it. In glossy and structured neat little packages that are practically begging to accompany you on your summer travels of the near future.

There really isn’t much more to comment on when it comes to LVMH’s new golden boy’s sophomore turn at LV, it was a confident one, Vuitton enough and developed just enough excitement, and surely some elation, in Paris, on the last day of near on four weeks of SS15 to keep the collection fresh on all of our minds.
