PFW SS15: Lanvin

Lanvin is the one French fashion institution that puts on the kind of show that really makes all the excitement centred around Paris on the last international stop-off SS15 will be making for the season really worthwhile. Upon the first figure to emerge on the runway it was already all too much to take in, shocked, surprised and in fanatical awe, Glass was delighted to distinguish iconic model and muse to artists such as Helmut Newton and Tony Viramontes, Violetta Sanchez. That’s it, we’d been won over. Alber, you devil. Wrapped in a sleek figure-hugging asymmetrical gown, SS15 was already a sight to behold. This was true to say as the next few looks became illuminated, even if only for the masterfully curated accessories of bulky costume jewellery and snakeskin belts, the details were instantly the key to each look.

Elbaz has an eye for fashion aesthetics like no other in the industry at the moment – an eye that can turn the broad and most universally appealing of looks into something that’s so Lanvin. Naturally, having free rein on a multitude of the world’s finest silk charmeuse and also the run of fashion’s most breath-taking archives is going to make for the most interesting forms this season – miraculous tiered silk dresses don’t exactly grow on trees.

This season was all about a woman so confident in her self-awareness – style flows from her and expresses itself fearlessly and also this season, she is celebrating 125 years of Lanvin design, so she’s going to look her best. Later down the line, things took a more bedecked turn when gilt encrusted, bedazzled but not in the slightest OTT, mini-dresses swished and swayed sinewously with floaty voile dresses decorated with an exotic flora print which transported us to worlds away.

These touching pieces, floating down the catwalk, like sun-shot clouds of the orient, turned out to see in the entire collection. A total of 55 looks that drifted by comprised of garments made for the beautiful woman who defies explanation like this collection. Don’t try to second guess a thing, you’d be wasting your time, Elbaz is a master at work that should be left to it if we want to see Lanvin sending out more stunning configurations of cloth.
