PFW SS15: Givenchy

Once again this season, Tisci has tapped into the side of Givenchy that’s known for tis higher echelon of glamour, yes, finally, and don’t you think it’s about time he stuck to what’s best? Tisci’s Mk1 Givenchy girl is back in town, on top form and gussied up in figure-hugging creations with a little fashionista-goes-gothic accent. This was the designers stock-in-trade fierce femininity, for the woman who can take fine lattice fringes from the bedroom and then take leather strips assorted into warrior princess skirts to the streets. All of these techniques involved much expertise, Tisci giving a couture hand to a number of pieces, from a lace-up catsuits that would make Julie Newmar’s catwoman pale in imitation to more of the hard-shelled leather shields that spoke for trend for panelling this season.

Next to that, monochrome line work rendered with lengths of fabric made light work of creating a striking body-com pattern that reiterates how good Tisci is for Givenchy. His SS15 collection didn’t manage to peak at any epochal moments with grande ball gowns given the designers modern redux treatment, however, his take is quite clear that Givenchy doesn’t need that for summer and he’s right. Instead, one should keep cool in chic monochromes, add a crucifix or two for some like a prayer realness and stay strong. That is after all what Tisci himself is going to show that he still has all the right stuff for Givenchy.
