PFW SS15: Emanuel Ungaro

Let’s be honest, Ungaro is a house that’s come a long way since its founder’s heyday, and gone through a, ahem, strange journey since then. In the here and now, Fausto Puglisi is rightfully one of the most appropriate designers to be at its helm and for SS15, has done a commendable job multitasking after his titular mainline only recently unveiled it’s satisfying SS15 offering in Milan. To his fullest capacity for high fashion Parisian chic, Puglisi did blinding primary brights and chaotic topaz florals, with harked back to what the Ungaro archive is evidently full of. This is the type of clothing that will no doubt delight an Ungaro customer, with sunny acid splashed trouser suits cut with modern intent, digitally printed floaty sundresses and other chic, yet sour burst, leisurewear that’s persuading us to opt for Ungaro in our future summertimes.

Fausto’s passion for casting his ideal woman as an all-powerful glamazon, who exerts said power through glaringly unreserved clothing choices was ravishingly embodied in the handful of showstopping gowns that topped off the collection by plunging to the nether regions. These were the looks Puglisi also affixed with the tagline “Roy Halston meets Ungaro”, an interesting choice of words. There was a danger in Fausto looking back so blatantly though, because in fashion’s current climate this can often be misconstrued and quickly become something of a museum piece. Nevertheless, his creations for Ungaro this season were just too fabulous to discredit, if only he could have delivered them with a little more reasoning. Que sera, sera though, because if he achieved anything this season, he breathed new life into Ungaro, sowing the seeds to a more promising future.
