PFW HAUTE COUTURE AW18: Giorgio Armani Privé

REGAL styles have surfaced quite a few times over couture week so far. There was Dior, whereupon Maria Grazia Chiuri showcased a royalist collection of sans corsets and queenly gowns. So too was Chanel, where Karl Lagerfeld intertwined eighties rockabilly dresses with jewelled brides of decadent desire. Last night – it was Armani Privés turn. And the royalist couture thread continued – with a series of styles fit for a throne whereupon females flourished.

Take the materials. Velvet and silk usurped the first half of the show, throughout which sharp, straight-cut suits graced the floors of Pariss Italian Embassy. That classic couture tailoring is what Armani has long been a master of, and last night, he evidenced that a well-dressed woman need only an empowering and elegant two-piece to steal a show. Suits were lacking in saturation – blacks, whites, greys and creams offered a sleek sensation that only few can successfully revive season after season. A seal of approval? Definitely – on the front row, Tina Turner sat looking stunned.

But not to worry – the couture gowns soon descended, too. They paraded in total femme form – spanning across straight to curved structures which emitted little other than class and grace. And just when attendees thought that Armanis colour palette was going to remain securely in the monochrome sector, a pleasant parade of pink ladies surfaced. Some couture creations consumed a entirety of runway space – the standouts blossoming through marvellous outbursts of feathers. La vie on rose? Most certainly, and were here for it. To top off the look? Extravagant head pieces with turquoise injections that safely proved Giorgios longstanding position as King of couture.

Ahead of todays highly anticipated shows – Margiela, Elie Saab and Valentino – Armanis AW18 couture collection was quite simply a perfected showcase of high fashion. Red carpet or royalist ready? With its grand 95 looks, one could quite quickly be prepped for either.
