PFW HAUTE COUTURE AW18: Alexis Mabille

THE SUN is shining in Paris for fashion week. Fortunately, Alexis Mabille’s latest AW18 couture collection was a weather-fitting display of floral femininity. Showcased yesterday, a grand display of shape and structure took centre stage upon a long, beaming runway. This was a revelation of the French designer’s forte – the ultimate evening attire. And he succeeded with flowing effortlessness.

Sensuality was the statement. Pastels powered through the gowns – teals, pinks, violets and blues, to be precise. They unfolded like an impressionist painting – the essence of an ethereal garden was affirmed by faded, floral pieces and dresses constructed through endless layers of tulle. Was this the world Paris or Monet? It was difficult to decide. But one thing was for certain: this was a blooming breath of fresh air – and all styles were suited for any formal occasion.

Mabille’s fresh scene was not limited to gowns, though. Flower-embossed blouses with elegantly puffed sleeves were combined with voluminous A-line skirts which enveloped the waist to perfection. Embellished jumpsuits also surfaced – sleeveless and finished with a fine lace. So too did a sharp and straight tuxedo appear – injecting darker shades of cool into a predominately delicate collection. Catered to all? Oui.

Amidst a series of shows unveiling regal-influenced fashion, this collection emitted an overarching desirability for all things pretty. Mabille’s main message for the Autumn/Winter season ahead? Florals and femme shades are to be fashioned in any season. Bring on the blossoming!
