PFW AW15: Balenciaga

Alexander Wang’s AW15 collection for Balenciaga this year took the house back to basics. Many of the pieces shown on the runway had a hint of some of original Balenciaga collections and paid homage to the original wearers of these garments.

The fabric choices were generally of a sturdy weight, and used to hold shape within the clothes. The silhouettes were exaggerated and somewhat exaggerated with angular necklines accompanying them. The most mesmerising pieces of the collection were skirts that appeared to be embroidered with jewels. They sparkled and gleamed against the fabric and formed patterns on the garments to which they were attached to.

Wang uses a rather monochromatic palette for the collection (not unusual for him) but the overall vibe of the collection does feel like a tribute to what Balenciaga once was, while adding modern accents.
