PFW 2015: Anthony Vaccarello

Parisian chic came to the Wild West today with Anthony Vaccarello’s new AW 2015 collection. Taking inspiration from his frequent travels to the US, Vaccarello brought his quintessentially French point of view to create an ultra-sexy, but sleek and sophisticated version of Country Western.

There was nothing conservative about Vaccarello’s collection, which was unapologetically interpretative. He used slick black leathers and substantial brown and black suedes accented by his version of cowboy belts, fringe, bolo ties and fringe, which felt surprisingly fresh and new. His hemlines were short, asymmetric and interesting. In particular, one red and black romper cum jumpsuit seemed to defy definition.

Proportions were lean and masterful with Vaccarello’s exquisite tailoring. There were beautiful black dress with sleek side cut-outs and silver hardware. Rich brown suedes took western to a new level of cool without going over the top. Stars were the most notable symbol by far, appearing in almost disco hippie fashion dripping off an asymmetric black mini dress or enlarged on what appeared to be the world’s softest black suede sweatshirt. There also were a range of interesting baseball-style jackets in a slim black suede that no doubt will be everywhere before long.

While what Vaccarello put on offer was not perhaps enough to cry, “heigh ho, silver”, it was nonetheless a refreshingly modern yet vintage feeling collection that didn’t feel remotely derivative.
