This week will see the launch of a collaboration between RIBA Hong Kong and the luxury shopping mall, Pacific Place in Hong Kong – entitled SHOP! Over the next three weeks, visitors to the shopping mall can see and interact with the competition-won public installations celebrating Pacific Place’s 25th Anniversary.
Aimed at emerging architects, the project has been orchestrated to promote architecture as a practice within Hong Kong by engaging the public with these new designs. Three of the winning pieces – selected from 40 entries – will be erected for the three weeks in the ground floor of the mall.
The Curious Horns, designed by Howard Chung, Irene Cheng, Sabah Ashiq
Walk of Fame, designed by Edmond Wong, Gary Law, Kylie Chan, Charis Mok and Enlin Zhuang
As part of a wider discussion, throughout 2014 RIBA Hong Kong has arranged a series of events based on Hong Kong’s favourite things; TALK! a debate on architecture, design and art; EAT! an edible architecture competition; and towards the end of the year, CELEBRATE! a social and networking event.
