NYFW18: Eckhaus Latta

ECKHAUS Latta’s AW18 coed collection began with a pure aesthetic as a range of off-white and soft grey looks kicked off the show. Minimalism is key, with a lack of bright colour and extravagant design allowing us to focus on the simplistic garment cuts. Androgyny is a common theme in past Eckhaus Latta collections, and this collection is no different. Masculine tailoring collides with billowing, bias-cut dresses blurring the lines between menswear and womenswear.

Bold colours are a late introduction but soon command the runway. Teal, seafoam green and periwinkle break the white aesthetic of the collection, followed shortly by an advance in techniques drifting away from the initial simplistic styling. Knitted garments being a statement in previous Latta collections, this season adds to their innovative knitwear with cut-out and tasselled jumpers.

Different bright colours constantly replace old in short influxes, along with new silhouettes and materials. A couple of  Jackie Kennedy-esque outfits suggest a slight inspiration, accessorised with white gloves to complete the look. Although, this contrasts with the final outfits as boxy blazers and oversized shoulders radiate an ‘80s inspiration. Combining a variety of coloured and monochromatic prints, the shows finish introduces a rich brown and diverts our attention back to focusing on the elegant pattern cutting techniques.
