NYFW SS19: Romona Keveza

ROMONA Keveza knows how to style Hollywood. In honour of her label’s 10th anniversary, the American designer showcased her SS19 collection, consecutively marking her first presentation at NYFW. Mirroring the Bacarrat Hotel’s Grand Salon show space, a rolling revelation of extravagant gowns took place. With it, a formal tone was set for the shows to follow over the upcoming month.

First up were Romona’s ladies in red. An entourage of models stormed the space clad in the stark colour. The implication? Ultra-star treatment. It’s no surprise, given that Keveza’s designs are famed for turning heads on the red carpet. Perhaps an additional reason for such lies in the fact that her mindset remains minimal. Structures were kept to a female flattering form – nipped in waists dominated the floor-length dresses, often accessorised with wide, silver-plated belts. With lower halves finished in both fitted and flowing form, Keveza’s realist empire reigned on.

Palette wise, Keveza stuck to block colours – namely red, navy and black. The daringly chic latter tone manifested itself across pleated peplum styles and generous layers of tulle. Daringly chic? Most definitely. And so ascended Keveza’s gothic frontier of femme fatales. Splits were injected in perfect places – hip high as well as diagonal cuts across the chest. As for the embellishments, floral embroidery donned a finalising look, and there was even the inclusion of fascinator features atop the shoulder. The overall verdict – styles to suit any woman of glamour.

It may be a month of ready-to-wear revelations, but Romona Keveza proved that she’s not going to shy away from maintaining her acclaimed reputation for formal attire. And so with her SS19 show brings a reminder that elegance can accommodate to any season. Into the night.
