NYFW SS19: Jeremy Scott

‘THIS season for my show I took inspiration from old polaroids I took of myself from 1996 experimenting with make-up and personas, gender bending looks and DYI hair styles I created on myself before I had runway and models to express my inspirations and ideas on for the world to see,” said Jeremy Scott in an Instagram post before his show.

Though arguably Scott is fashion forward, this season he is taking a step back – in a nostalgic sense. Printed on hoodies are throwback selfies of the designer and bodycon dresses printed with polaroids of himself. Bold colours, provocative elements and sporty touches were all seen during his SS19 collection, the foundation of any of Scott’s collections.

Words like “shock”, “future”, “riot” and “sex” adorn the sweatshirts and t-shirts, a clear link was made to his archived pop art designs and vibrant aesthetic. Yet, there was an anti- establishment vibe with the one word slogans – ”SHOCK, SEX, REVOLT” was read sticking off a sweater dress.

Neon full looks were seen mixing leather and mess. Sprinkled on a range of leather clothing were the emblems of some of the most popular teams in the NBA. The repetitive pink and yellow Pokémon print starring the character of Pikachu hints back to his spring- summer 2015 Barbie print, and his AW14 SpongeBob inspiration.

Scott took his bow on the runway with a tank top that read ‘Tell you senator No on Kavanaugh 202-902-7129’ giving his audience a final thought to take with them.
