NYFW SS18: Sies Marjan

FOR its SS18, Sies Marjan was showing in his atelier with shelves filled with rolls of fabrics acting as a backdrop. Colour is always in the spotlight at Sies Marjan. This season, the sweet hues that we’re used to seeing on delicious macaroons – from pistachio and lemon to raspberry, lavender or orange – were the main attraction. The candy pink seen in the brand’s AW17 collection was already a hit and different shades of pink certainly remained a staple for this collection too. A contrasting coral orange was then used on the lips missing the edges by a distance.

Light fabrics such as silk, chiffon and satin took centre stage. They were made into flowy dresses, jumpsuits and nightwear-inspired separates, both simple and easy-to-wear and more intricately folded ones, were paired with colour-matching peep-toe lace-up ankle boots and metallic strappy sandals. Soft teddy bear furs and shiny rain coats for chilly spring days were also included.

This season, Sander Lak, the brand’s creative director, broke away from solid colours in a few rare instances and embraced stripes as well as watercolour-like print.

However, a gold foil/chocolate wrapper pant suit with a belted jacket was among the stand-out looks and so was a satin pistachio overall which looked like it was cut from a single piece of fabric.

It was a dreamy and sugary collection filled with pyjama and candy floss references. Yum!
