NYFW SS16: Tadashi Shoji

In New York this week Tadashi Shoji showed us a glimpse of what spring will look like next year. Sticking with the classics of florals, pastels, and light airy fabrics, Tadashi keeps the season feeling feminine.

The collection opens all in white with a selection of separates, many of which have been cut from the same sheer floral fabric. All of which are delicately wrapping around the waist to show off the models silhouette. Much of the collection uses tulle, lace, mesh, or other sheer fabrics, firmly placing a tulle skirt at the top of the “I need to buy this” list for every woman this year.

There is also a wide range of dresses within the collection. Everything from sweet floral patterned shift dresses to hemlines that graze the floor even in the highest of heels. There’s a distinctive pattern that appears on many of the pieces throughout the collection. A grid-like lattice pattern that hits further at springtime. There’s even a few instances where the flowers on the fabric appear to be climbing up this sheer lattice pattern. It’s a slight twist on the typical.

When looking more closely at the collection, you noticea sort of Asian inspiration, specifically Japan. The clothing has a Japanese minimalism and even the choices of flowers are those which would more commonly be found in Japan than New York. Overall the collection seems to revolve around the idea of a light, bright and floral filled spring in Japan.
