NYFW SS15: Carolina Herrera

We expect nothing less than the utmost classiness from Carolina Herrera, and, naturally, we received nothing but from her SS15 collection. Femininity abound, the collection spanned a variety of looks, such as boxy Chanel-like cardigan style jackets or tops with knee length skirts; mid-waist cinched flouncy shirtwaist-inspired cap sleeved dresses; floral or geometric design appliquéd gowns with varying necklines; or floor skimming A-lines with corresponding, surprisingly contemporary cropped cap sleeved tops.

Particularly to note in this collection are the collar styles that Herrera employed. One gown, a stunning sleeveless floor length piece with a pointillist design at the bottom and structural appliquéd imagery cascading from the collar, had a large, folded-over collar falling gently across its model’s neckline; there were quite a few pixie collars, as well, all tailored sharply to eschew their usual girlish association for a more sophisticated, cocktail attire feel. A demure gown got a little playful, its collar folding down at the clavicle to reveal a stately décolletage; another look had a collar springing from each of its single breasted blouse’s shoulders; and another piece, a translucent top boasting a Tetris-like execution of opaque white tiles, had a loping, round collar, circling around its model’s neck like an ivory wave of broken seashells.

Ms. Herrerra, of course, stepped onto the runway for parting salutations in a collar characteristic of her dignified, purist self: a lifted, starched, white collar, standing tall up her neck.
