NYFW AW2014: Derek Lam

For autumn-winter 2014-2015, Derek Lam presented us with an elegant, yet artsy and avant-garde woman.  The core pieces of a woman’s wardrobe, the perfect jacket, the well-cut pants, the simple sophisticated dress and the knee-high boots, were the centre of attention, as Lam twisted and unshaped them to innovate and bring opposite forces together.

In the shades of pale pinks, blues, greys, navy and black, Lam created a polished collection, were materials find a form-fitting design around the body and no shape at all is a shape in – itself like the oversized pink coat with the embroider flowery skirt.

Blocks of colour were used in sweaters, bags and skirts to maximize creativity over structure. Different textures and materials were played with to create a sense of cohesive flow throw-out the several classic designs like the wide pants, the pencil skirt, the coats and the dresses. Wool, leather, patchworks, fringes and even some lurex-fabrics brought to life a hard modern feminine side for the next season.
