Miyake Issey exhibition: The Work of Miyake Issey set to open in Tokyo, March 2016

An exhibition devoted to designer Issey Miyake will be held at the National Art Center, Tokyo, which has focused on a host of established and emerging artistic talent since its opening in 2007. In 2010 Issey Miyake received the Order of Culture Merit award to add to his vast array of accolades.

The exhibition will be the first of its kind and will be divided into three rooms. It will focus both on Miyake’s ideas from conception to realisation, spanning 45 years of the iconic designer’s outstanding career, from his early work to current projects and his exploration of greater creative possibilities for the future.

Issey Miyake was born in Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan, in 1938. He established the Miyake Design Studio in 1970 and showed his collection in Paris three years later. He is best known for applying ideas associated with traditional techniques fused with cutting-edge technology and is renowned for his creativity in every collection.
