Miu Miu AW14 Ad Campaign

For Miu Miu’s AW14 ad campaign Steven Meisel screentests the newest avant-garde cinema sensation Stacy Martin in an ode to the Warholian ‘superstar’, often considered to be one of the pop artist’s greatest works of art. Franco-English Martin, whose biggest title to date so far is Lars Von Trier’s provocative heavy-on-skin-flick Nymphomaniac, captures Miu Miu’s off-kilter femininity perfectly in a trio of imagery that’s firmly rooted in an age of sixties youthquake-ing transformation.

Meisel uses those two timeless dividers, darkness and light, to contrastingly sculpt all the emotion in each image and graze AW14’s clothing with bustling textures of brocade, knit and unkempt astrakhan, riddling the campaign with a seductive enigma. By immortalizing Martin as a personification of the Miu Miu narrative the brand has brought about a superb monotone vibrancy that has convincingly captivated Glass.
