Milan Menswear AW15: Roberto Cavalli

AW is a tricky season for menswear at Roberto Cavalli. On the one hand Cavalli is given carte blanche to go wild with gorgeous furs and skin-tight leather, so win-win there, but on the other, he must try to curb the call of the tropics prints and whispery silks. It was all Cavalli through and through however, well except for those first few looks that featured sashes which read, EMPATHY and NO BOUNDS, in a move eerily similar to McQueen’s show of patriotism in London last week.

Anyhow, the messy jeans and mountain man furs worked wonders to affect a rough and ready appeal. Other versions, such as the knee-length cow-print fur paired gold dusted jeans added some great sass. Other than that, the menswear for Cavalli consumers eyes only came and went like clockwork with some other best bits, like a leopard-printed biker gilet, a leather jacket studded with baroque swirls and a grand cape edged in mink, the most extravagant of them all.

The tailoring had it’s own moment too, Cavalli uniting a sleek chest-hugging jacket and white turtle-necks for some timeless euro-style. In essence, this had something for everyone who likes to dare. Even if one happened to by some absurd chance never of caught wind of Cavalli and his ways, they’d probably be able to extract something they like from this offering and perhaps that’s just the kind of newbies the brand want to pull in.
