MFW SS19: Alberta Ferretti

ALBERTA Ferretti knows how to design feminine clothing. Last night, the Italian designer unveiled her SS19 collection, centred around hues, structures and details which paraded all things pretty. This was a reminder of what the spring and summer seasons are about – optimism and clarity. Those two points were materialised through an ongoing thread of lace, sealing Ferretti’s call for a youth celebration.

Edie Campbell opened the show in a spring-fitting look that was finished with the overarching frill thread. A sensual tone was set through a casual pairing of wide, olive hued trousers with a pastel pink crop top. Delicacy? Definitely – and it continued across the impressive set of 57 looks which composed the collection. They spanned an array of pieces – from suits to skirts to shorts to caftan dresses. Note the fact that Ferretti is acclaimed for her gown creations, which often tend to take over her shows. But not last night – her range of shapes and silhouettes were catering to all occasions.

And so entered countless styles of suits. Continuing in spring’s pastel pleasing palette, they were constructed through generous amounts of material and layering. The implication? Poise and practicality were presented at their finest. Accessorised with suits were leather-handled basket bags, injecting a sense of inherent Frenchness to a casual but cool collection. So in short – it was like Jane Birkin had embarked on an Italian getaway. We’re ready to join, too.

Finalising the show were Ferretti’s ladies in black – lace edition. They spanned across 11 looks – juxtaposing the running girly-hued thread that had previously been unveiled, but nonetheless continuing to emit elegance. If there’s one thing Ferretti strives for, it’s the goal to materialise femininity for any setting – beach, city, or even red carpet. Take your pick while we take ours.
