MFW SS18: Bottega Veneta

COLOUR. Bottega Veneta is renowned for its rather dark colour palette and if there are any bright colours involved they usually have a sombre aura. However, for SS18 creative director, Tomas Maier, used a warmer and happier yet subtle palette.

Both men’s and women’s collection were shown at the Palazza Archinto. “It’s very playful … it reflects the mood of the collection,” Maier said about the former house built in 1830 which now is a boarding school for girls. “It’s all these easy pieces,” he continued referring to the silhouettes and design of the collection. It was a very polished and wearable collection indeed.

One stand-out look for Glass was a knee-length, burnt coral viscose dress. The easy-to-wear slip dress was adorned with see-through embellishments of the same colour. The model wore it with a dark Barolo (a French calf belt) and velvet d’Orday pumps, and antique cuffs and necklace. Another stand-out look was the white cotton jacket and shorts adorned with the tiny silver studs to create an inside-out stitched look which was paired with gold, calf pointed Mary-Jane flats, an intercciato black and white Nappa bag and a black silk necktie scarf. This ensemble gave us a very strong urge to holiday at the French Riviera.

A Glass favourite was the lime V-neck  loose velvet jumpsuit with zips and scattered silver studs adorning the outfit. The model wore it with a skinny crocodile belt, crocodile messenger bag and round sunglasses – very 1970s. Gigi Hadid wore a pastel blue, suede dress with a low V-neck, grommets and long tassels. With a butterfly, statement necklace and python bag the look was effortless but effective.

Overall, Bottega Veneta’s SS18 collection was easy and clean with a modern approach embracing and celebrating the brand’s heritage and craftsmanship with beautiful elegant wearable clothes.
