MFW SS16: Giorgio Armani

Giorgio Armani’s masterful hand was at work in Milan this season and did not make one single slip. A firecracker red was the colour the designer singled out among others for SS16, but despite this intense hue Armani didn’t let it affect any of his light “bland gone bling” signatures, diffusing it within pastel tones and cool streaks of see through bluey metallics.

In that respect, elegance was everything as always. Pieces were at once sometimes faintly nautical and so every so often a touch sporty too, but all in all, the very well-constructed jackets with yarns of fine woven embellishments and colour-matched skirts, or bottoms, appeared instantaneously ladylike. Going by this, nothing really changed at Giorgio Armani this season, other than the collection for SS being a little smaller than usual, but each piece was wisely curated by the cut, pattern and embellishment visionary to a tee.

The display concluded with only a couple of fairly simplistic (for Giorgio) gowns and the calmer considered construction of each one, with streams of scarlet organza ruffles cascading from darkness underneath, was a real treat and made them much more effective as show-ending-pieces. One feels that Armani didn’t feel the need to exert himself this season and was simply satisfied with a small but mighty yield. As for us, we are without a doubt more than satisfied for the time being.
