MFW SS15: Tod’s

Tod’s have given us one of the most formulaic collections in the brief history of MFW SS15 so far, that formula being leather and that formula thriving. For instance, in every form you can possibly imagine, leather was intricately laser-cut into girly panel dresses, crafted supremely into supple shirt dresses and jumpsuits, and of course, there were leather bags and shoes too. What was to become an increasingly strong collection of 30 quality pieces didn’t come without some variety though, with Tod’s head girl Alessandra Facchinetti interspersing floral prints throughout.

Granted, florals and leather seems like an interesting union considering the present season, but scaling back the flora to stripped down colour blocked branches that hardly resembled plant life at all worked incredibly well. It turns out that botanica was on Facchinetti’s mind more than first met the eye though, despite the leather, many looks appearing at a glance as crisp and delicate as leafy stems, in reality, it was just fine cotton paired with sheer sumptuous leather.

Facchinetti really dolled up her Tod’s girl this season, without making her too dolly-dandy, these were serious clothes that didn’t make us roll our eyes at the sight of prissy, passé florals, but made us ooh and aah at leather jackets of the future, one or two timelessly cut suits in juicy brights and much more.
