In many ways euro-extraordinaire Roberto Cavalli should be in his element in SS, but in some ways, the winter months don’t do him so wrong either. This season, the designer himself did no wrong for his gutsy gal either, he just didn’t do anything that was really different, but then we ask ourselves, why should he? Laser-cut lace and other outré numbers punctuated with opulence ticked all the right boxes. But along with this, you’ll probably be able to identify the distinct variegation of the forms and factors that make a Cavalli a Cavalli.
Charged up metallic snakeskin skirt-suits were tailor made for the woman who has a bit of brassy Barbarella inside her, but a look or so later, you’d be right in saying that the somewhat listless asymmetrical slips in midnight black must have been readied to sober it all up for the less adventuresome.
Onwards, more and more garments then became aligned which each other with added precision, cue the expressive Cavalli gowns, tropical sundresses and lengthy caftans that amalgamated a handful of alternating animal prints into one monochrome smack. It had all the sweltering sex appeal we need from this designer’s brief Milan power play, sure, and it didn’t leave us out on a limb for summery fashion choices, but it did leave us wanting some more a little more immediately this time. AW15, we say, come quickly.
