MFW SS15: Fausto Puglisi

Fausto Puglisi is a master styliste of short-skirted sex appeal, and what appeals to him more than anything is nostalgia. Not something that many others like to get hung up on, Fausto knows this, but through this season, you can see him attempting to address where he wants to go as a designer. It’s a brave attempt too, because after presenting such a smorgasbord of concepts, it’s bound to get people talking. Taking his love for Europe’s most iconic fashions of the past, Puglisi started with a close encounter of 1960s space-race op-art chic, then giving way to more Rabanne-flavoured gladiator-skirts and laser-cut peep-holes and finally veering off towards trendier pieces.

Even throughout the episodic trend-conscious moments, while drastically more simplistic in form and in contemporary chartreuse and orange hues, you can tell Fausto’s pioneer spirit was at times dictating every detail. The monochrome tessellation prints are probably the one good medium between ferocious Fausto trademarks and fad fashion, his erudite eye for graphic impact is accountable for that. We say be gone to anyone who tries to stomp out his maximalist ways though, if Fausto is going to get anywhere it’s on his own terms, so it’s about time he crammed all the charisma we know he has into every last inch of a collection.
