MFW AW15: Bottega Veneta

When Tomas Maier does the trends of the very day for Bottega Veneta, those trends move beyond what we’ve seen before everywhere and become something entirely new and signature unto themselves.  Tremendously chic AW styles drew heavily on Rudi Gernreich-esque op-art modishness and we were soon seeing the most signature spots on record this season.

Maier kept it wearable across the board yet endlessly engaging throughout until he succumbed to breaking the spots up with a little luxe crocodile mid-way through. From then on, broad brush-stroke stripes took fuzzy sweaters and capes in an altogether opposite direction, giving this quite un-shy and retiring collection a number of sleek perspectives. Sharp daywear swayed seamlessly between the peppy European prep and the noble lady in exuberant pattern and print and soon reverted back to the lean fit-for-Twiggy sixties slips that have all but taken over this season.

Maier ended it all on a very Veneta note with some lovely luxe le smoking suit variations scattered with a galaxy of polka dots. These streamlined the entire collection and proved that in any which way Bottega’s creative genius decides to adopt the up-and-coming trends, class is always of the utmost importance for the brand’s forward progression.
