LFWM18: Bobby Abley

THE Tasmanian Devil of the fashion industry, Bobby Abley is renowned for taking pop culture classics, usually centred around children favourites, and reworking them into menswear pieces. The Little Mermaid, The Power Rangers and SpongeBob SquarePants are some of the past inspirations Abley has used to animate his pieces and for AW18 it was the turn of the Looney Tunes.

Road-running down the catwalk came Sylvester sweatshirts, Tweety Pie pullovers and Bugs Bunny bandanas, stylised with trending pieces that showcased the label’s relevance in today’s fashion industry. Incorporating round sunglasses, Timberlands and tartans into a collection containing Daffy Duck striped jumpers and Marvin the Martian kimono-sleeved t-shirts, exhibits Bobby Abley’s knowledge of up-to-the-minute styles. Subtle monochrome looks acted as dividers between glitter-faced models dressed in the more outlandish pieces of furry grey dungarees, rabbit teeth grills and red furry crop tops.

Neoprene sweatshirts have become staple to Bobby Abley’s collections this season the sweat-top depict classic Looney Tunes characters, such as Bugs Bunny. A Glass favourite, the sweatshirt was paired with sweat shorts in the same technical fabric, and accessorised with a gym bag and baseball cap coloured in a matching hue. The ensemble is so contemporary due to its playfulness with a globally recognised character, a trend of collaborating that shows no sign of slowing down. Beep Beep.
