LFW AW18: Jamie Wei Huang

CLOTHES for the fearless, the foolish and the dreamers. Jamie Wei Huang took inspiration from the golden era of the entertainment industry of 1990s Hong Kong for the AW18 collection. The denim was to die for – the wide-legged jeans and overalls had slashes, belts tied at the knees, deconstructed pockets and tartan patches sewn asymmetrically.

Corduroy featured heavily with mustard flares and sea blue mini and midi skirts, buttoned down the centre. The baggy hi-shine nylon and the knitwear with frilled elbows and seemingly random stitching across forest green jumpers all added up to create that carefree, cool kid attitude. In collaboration with two young creatives, models walked to the light-hearted rock of indie band The Old Mog Detective Agency, while the strikingly large earrings in all twisted shapes with springs worn in one ear, were crafted by jewellery design student Fang.

The socks and sandals, selection of bags – envelope pouches attached to waist belts, over the head and pressed closely to the chest, or the clutches printed with JWH AW18 – were an abundance of youthful energy. Jamie Wei Huang wanted to remind us that it is still ok to be hopeful, to be passionate, to be naïve. A dedication to those who dare to dream.
