LFW AW15: Erdem

Erdem’s poetry in frilly romanticised motion was pure fashion fantasy yesterday morning when the Canadian-born-British-Turkish designer commandeered the baron Old Selfridges Hotel to stage his AW15 show. One of the most decadently set shows so far with scrupulous thought owed to exactly the right mise-en-scene, a voyeuristic room-with-a-view glimpse into a retro show home was created, just in order to coincide extensively with this season’s evocative look.

Pretty feminine formations took over the body and festooned all that was covered in a palette of antique-y jewel tones. Clearly taking cue from the imposing interiors that the models navigated through, long coats featured chintzy patterns from collar to hem and frayed plays on the age-old tweed suit were practically falling apart at the seams with combinations of thick fabrics and intense colours. Thankfully control was never lost and each piece represented an eye for detail that Erdem is a proud possessor of.

Elements of ornate brocade worked best on leather dresses gave new life to something that we have seen time and time again and even having the ability to achieve that feat is hard to put one’s finger on. Even more textured tulle and layers of ruffles emerged as the show came to a just a little theatrical finale when Erdem’s girl slightly interrupted started interacting with the set.

No doubt all eyes were trained on the garments though, there was just too much going on there to possibly look away and so much so that we think the designer’s followers will be going back for a second look time and time again this season.
