NYFW AW2014: Nicole Miller

American designer Nicole Miller revealed her Autumn/Winter 2014 collection on home turf in New York late Friday night.  The collection had the overall tone of a strong and powerful yet feminine women channeled in a more stylish way than classic business attire normally dictates.

The collections fundamentals rested upon layering and piecing together textures and fabrics such as leathers, peacock feathers, neoprene and crystals on digital prints and patterns in orange, brown and purple autumn hues.  Silhoettes were mainly fitted with some bodycon, skirts above the knee in length and many all black combinations were modelled by fierce masculine looking females.

The collection looked united and many pieces displayed the signature draping techniques Miller has become renowned for.  Her designer education is a mixture of homeland and abroad studies resulting in a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Apparel Design from the Rhode Island School of Design and also a year of training abroad in Paris at the  L’Ecole de la Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne to learn classical mechanisms of couture.

Nicole Miller also designs in home furnishings and has a collection with Bed, Bath and Beyond.  This is in addition to her J.C. Penney collection and her 20 boutiques situated in major cities across the United States.
